Abstract

This paper reports on the growth of seawater pollution by synthetic plastic wastes during the last decade. Plastics accounted for the major item of marine solid wastes which pollute the sea water, seabed and beaches. The author in the water area of Varna Bay observed a whirlpool of „plastic soup“ in 1998, 2000 and 2008. Part of it was documented by means of an underwater photo-camera Nikonos -II.
