Abstract

The observed species were Fagus sylvatica, Picea abies and Quercus frainetto. The litterfall mass was not changed during the period 2006-2011. The elements N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Na, Fe, Mn, Al, Zn, Сu аnd РЬ from broad-leaved tree species were returned to the soil mainly with foliar litterfall. In the Norway spruce stand “wood” and “reproductive parts and seeds” fractions were significant for the return of these elements to the soil. They returned about 26% of the total quantity of nitrogen, 26% of phosphorus, 27% of sulfur, 38% of zinc and 20% of lead indicating its better opportunities for translocation to the vital organs. Organic C/N ratios for the “foliage” fraction do not differ between the three tree species, but for fractions “wood” and “reproductive parts and seed” the differences were statistically significant. Due to the low content of nitrogen the slowest rate оf decomposition was observed in the “reproductive organ and seed” fraction of Cornmon beech (org. C/N = 82).The largest quantity of biomass deposited оn the soil surface was registered in the Oak stand - average of 8098 kg ha-1yr-1.
