Черница (Morus spp) e единствената храна за копринените буби (Bombyx mori L.), в резултат
на което е разпространена по целия свят и вирее при различни климатични условия. Листата й имат приятен вкус и висока смилаемост за преживните животни. Съдържанието на протеин в листата и младите стъбла варира от 15% до 28%, в зависимост от сорта. Минералното съдържание е високо и не са известни противопоказни токсични съединения. Продукцията от листа се събира чрез бране на ръка или предимно чрез изрязване на клоните. Черницата е една от
малкото култури, които преживяват десетки години. Подложена е на ежегодно премахване на листоносещата дървесина. Добивите от листа зависят от сорта, местоположението, схемата на засаждане и прилаганата агротехника. От гледна точка на смилаеми хранителни вещества, от черницата могат да се произвеждат традиционни фуражи. Листата се използват като добавки, заместващи концентрати за млечни крави, като основна храна за кози, овце и зайци, и като съставка в диети за непреживни.
