The Helianthus ciliaris DC (Texas Blueweed or Hair-Like Sunflower) is a perennial species. The aim of our investigation is to receive hybrids from interspecific crossing and to characterize the first hybrid progeny. Hybridization between the wild species and cultivated sunflower Helianthus annuus L. was made. The cross ability rate was low (around 50 %). Seeds and hybrid plants were obtained in both directions of crossing. While in the direct cross 20% F1 plants from the total number of seeds were obtained, in the reciprocal cross - only 2%. The F1 plants had an annual growth cycle. The hybrid plants strongly resembled the cultivated sunflower by the most important morphological characters even though they had an intermediate type of heritability. It was established that the wild species carried Rf genes for CMS Pet-1. After self-pollination, sib-pollination of the F1 plants and back-crossing with cultivated sunflower, seeds for F2, BC1 generations were received.
