Abstract

The established long-term trend in climate change in Bulgaria in recent years and the wide range of food hosts are prerequisites for Drosophila suzukii (Matsumura) to become a potentially dangerous pest of fruit and berry crops. This necessitates the search for new methods of monitoring and control. The study was conducted in 2022-2024 in the village of Mirolyubovo, Burgas region, in plantations of the "Petra" strawberry variety. Traps of different colors were used for monitoring: yellow, light red, red, orange, and blue. The traps were set up during the fruit ripening period and were checked weekly until the harvest. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of different trap colors in attracting and catching flies. The results of the study show that D. suzukii is active throughout the fruit ripening season. The largest number of adults were caught in light red traps, followed by red, blue, yellow, and finally orange. The color preferences of D. suzukii can be used to develop strategies for monitoring and controlling the species. The use of light red traps can significantly increase the effectiveness of early detection of the species and reduce losses.
